These nuggets are quite good and easy to make. They'll be a hit with adults for sure and some children. If your children are picky, some could be left plain for them. Serve with a salad and favorite sides.
16 frozen, round or dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets
1 c. smooth marinara/spaghetti sauce
1/2 t. Italian seasoning
1/2 t. red pepper flakes (or cayenne pepper)
1/2 c. freshly shredded Parmesan cheese
4 slices Provolone cheese, cut into fourths
fresh basil, chiffonade, for garnish
Preheat oven to temperature as listed on package.
Bake chicken nuggets on a baking sheet according to the package instructions, making sure that chicken is completely cooked and hot. Remove from oven; set aside.
Set oven to a medium broil setting.
Top each chicken nugget with about 1 t. marinara/spaghetti sauce, a sprinkle of Italian seasoning, several red pepper flakes and a pinch of Parmesan cheese; add Provolone cheese to the top of each nugget.
Place under the broiler until cheese has melted and is beginning to brown, 1-2 minutes.
Remove from oven; transfer to a platter.
Serve garnished with fresh basil.
