You don't need to go to a restaurant to enjoy this appetizer anymore but can make them easily at home. They are much like a Bloomin Onion but easier for home preparation. Serve them with the tasty sauce.
4 large onions
1 egg, beaten
1/2 c. milk
1 c. flour
1 1/2 t. paprika
1 t. salt
1/2 t. black pepper
1/2 t. garlic powder
1 1/2 t. oregano
1/2 t. cumin
oil, for frying
2 T. ketchup
2/3 c. mayonnaise
1 T. sweet paprika
2 T. heavy cream
1/4 lime, juiced
In a bowl, whisk together egg and milk; set aside.
In another bowl, mix together flour, paprika, salt, pepper, garlic powder, oregano and cumin; set aside.
Heat oil.
Cut onion into petals. Dip each petal into the milk mixture and then the dry mixture twice.
Fry in hot oil.
Stir together the ketchup, mayonnaise, sweet paprika and heavy cream; add lime juice; stir again.
Serve the onion petals with the sauce.
