Monkey bread is fun to make and even more fun to eat. It's easily prepared with refrigerated biscuits, sugar, butter, brown sugar and cinnamon. The sugars caramelize and make a wonderful, sticky, golden sauce.
2 - 16.3 oz. biscuit dough rolls
½ c. sugar
1 ½ t. cinnamon
½ c. pecans or walnuts, finely chopped
1 c. brown sugar
¾ c. butter, melted
whipped cream, for serving, optional
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine butter and brown sugar; set aside. Grease a bundt pan.
Cut each biscuit into 4 equal pieces.
In a large bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon; toss biscuit pieces with cinnamon mixture.
Layer sugared biscuits and nuts in prepared bundt pan. Top with brown sugar topping.
Bake 35 minutes or until golden. Let cool a few minutes and then invert onto a plate to release it.
Serve warm with whipped cream, if desired.
8 servings.
*Variations: Add chopped apples, applesauce, pears, blueberries or other fruits into the mix before baking.
