This recipe for cider will be a hit with everyone that you serve it to. It has a wonderful aroma, is tasty and will warm you up on a chilly night.
1 gallon (16 c.) apple cider
1/4 c. light brown sugar
1 t. allspice
pinch grated nutmeg
2 t. whole cloves
1 orange, whole
cinnamon sticks, for garnish
2 c. rum or bourbon, optional
In a large pot over medium heat, add apple cider; stir in brown sugar, allspice and nutmeg until sugar is dissolved; bring to a low boil.
Place the pointy ends of the cloves into the orange so that just the buds of the cloves are visible. The entire orange should be covered with the cloves.
Place the orange in the cider; reduce heat to simmer; cover; simmer for 20 minutes.
Serve in warm mugs with a cinnamon stick garnish.
For adults only, add some rum or bourbon to the cider, if desired.
