Brownies are good, but these caramel pretzel brownies are fantastic. They are easy to make and amazing to eat with the mixture of chocolate, caramel and pretzels.
14 oz. bag individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped, divided
19.8 oz. box fudge brownie mix
½ c. vegetable oil
¼ c. water
2 eggs
¼ c. butter
1 T. milk
1 c. chopped pretzels (not too fine)
¾ c. chocolate chips
⅓ c. chocolate covered toffee bits
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9 x 13 inch baking dish. Unwrap caramels. Cut 9 caramels into halves.
Beat brownie mix, oil, water and eggs together in a bowl until the batter is well combined; pour into prepared baking dish. Place the caramel halves into 3 rows of 6 (18 pieces) in the brownie batter so that there will be a caramel half in the center of each brownie.
Bake 25-30 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted into the center comes out almost clean.
Melt the remaining caramels, butter and milk together in a microwave-safe glass or ceramic bowl in 30 second intervals; stir after each melting, for 1 - 3 minutes, depending on the microwave.
Pour caramel mixture over the still warm brownies; top with pretzels, chocolate chips, and toffee bits. Cool completely. Cut into 18 squares.
