This cake is rich, buttery and full of chocolate flavor and like its name implies, it's gooey. It will feed a crowd but is great for the family as well.
butter, to grease baking pan
15.25 oz. box Devil's Food chocolate cake mix
3 eggs, divided
1 c. melted butter, divided
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
3 T. cocoa powder
3 c. powdered sugar
1 t. vanilla extract
1 c. pecans, chopped (or chopped walnuts)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a 9 × 13" baking pan with butter.
In a large bowl, combine cake mix, 1 egg and 1/2 c. melted butter; stir well. Spread mixture into the prepared pan; set aside.
Place cream cheese in a bowl; beat with an electric mixer until smooth.
Add remaining 2 eggs and cocoa powder; slowly pour in remaining melted butter and vanilla, beating until smooth. Add powdered sugar; beat until well combined. Stir in pecans.
Spread filling over cake mixture in the baking pan.
Bake for 40-45 minutes. Do not overcook the cake. The center should still be a little gooey when finished baking.
Allow the cake to cool for at least 10-15 minutes before slicing.
Serve.
