Celebrate the fun and festive day with these simple to make cookies. They are great fun for Halloween parties, get togethers at at home fun treats.
Cookies:
2 c. flour
2 T. corn starch
½ t. salt
¾ c. cocoa powder
1 c. sugar
1 c. butter, softened
1 egg
2 t. vanilla
Frosting:
8 T. butter, softened
2 c. powdered sugar
1 ½ T. heavy cream
½ t. vanilla
orange gel food coloring
60 Hershey’s Kisses
Halloween colored sprinkles
Stir together flour, corn starch, cocoa powder and salt.
With an electric mixer, combine butter and sugar until light and fluffy; add egg and vanilla; mix until well blended. Gradually add flour mixture, mixing well after each addition.
Roll dough into a log with a diameter of about 1 1/2 inches. Wrap with parchment or wax paper. Place in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Carefully slice dough into 1/4-1/2 inch slices; place on a baking sheet.
Bake 8-12 minutes or until set.
Remove from oven; let cool on the baking sheet for 2-3 minutes; remove to cooling rack to cool completely.
Frosting:
In the bowl of an electric mixer, mix butter until light and fluffy; add powdered sugar a little at a time, mixing between each addition. Add in cream, vanilla and food coloring; mix thoroughly. Add additional food coloring as needed to achieve desired flavor.
Use a piping bag to pipe small dots of frosting on the bottoms of unwrapped kisses, placing them in the centers of each cookie. Pipe frosting around the edges of the kisses; sprinkle on sprinkles.
Store in an airtight container until ready to serve.
