Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Spray a glass or ceramic 8x8 inch or 9x9 inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. The kind with flour in it is great.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt butter in the microwave; pour butter in the prepared dish.

In a medium bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt together. Add the buttermilk; stir until a sticky batter forms. If batter still seems too dry, add a little more buttermilk until the batter is thick and sticky.

Pour biscuit dough into the baking dish on top of the melted butter. Some of the butter will run over the top of the dough. Spray hands with a bit of non-stick spray to help spread the dough out evenly.

Cut dough into 9 squares which will help with cutting later when the biscuits are baked.

Place baking dish on the middle oven rack and bake for about 25-30 minutes, rotating dish once during baking.

Biscuits should be golden brown on top and spring back to the touch. Insert a wooden toothpick in the center and if it comes out clean with no batter, they are done.

9 servings.
