Replace that box mix with these easy to make and delicious from scratch biscuits. Make them for a special occasion or an everyday meal.
2 c. all-purpose flour
2 t. baking powder
1/2 t. baking soda
1 t. granulated sugar
3/4 t. salt
1/2 t. garlic powder
1/4 t. cayenne pepper
1 c. sharp Cheddar cheese, (4 oz.)
1 c. cold buttermilk
1/2 c. unsalted butter, melted and cooled for 5 minutes
Topping:
2 T. melted butter
1/2 t. garlic powder
1/4 t. dry parsley
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Grease a light colored baking sheet.
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, salt, garlic powder and cayenne pepper. Stir in the cheddar cheese; set aside.
In another bowl, mix together the buttermilk and melted butter until small lumps form.
Add the buttermilk to the bowl with the flour mixture; mix until a dough has formed and ingredients are no longer dry. DO NOT over mix.
Lightly grease a 1/4 cup measuring cup; use measuring cup to scoop out the dough. Place scooped out dough on prepared baking sheet, leaving a little more than one inch in between. There should be 10 scoops.
Bake for about 12 minutes, until golden brown.
While biscuits are baking, make the topping by combining the melted butter, garlic powder, and parsley.
Remove the biscuits from the oven and brush the tops of the biscuits while still hot.
Serve immediately.
Makes 10 biscuits.
