This is the perfect fall dessert made with chopped apples, brown sugar, cinnamon and old fashioned oats. Serve it warm with salted caramel sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream to make it even better.
6 Golden Delicious apples, peeled and chopped
2 T. granulated sugar
3/4 t. ground cinnamon
1 1/2 t. lemon juice
Topping:
1 c. light brown sugar
3/4 c. old fashioned oats
3/4 c. all-purpose flour
1 t. cinnamon
1/2 c. cold unsalted butter, diced into small cubes
pinch of kosher salt
For Serving:
salted caramel sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter or spray an 8 × 8 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray; set aside.
In a bowl, add chopped apples, sugar, 3/4 t. cinnamon and the lemon juice; stir to combine. Transfer to the prepared baking dish.
Add topping ingredients to another bowl. Use a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the oat mixture, using a slight downward twisting motion, until mixture resembled pea-sized crumbs. You can also use 2 forks or your hands to cut butter into the mixture.
Spread the topping over the apples in the baking dish, gently patting to even it out.
Bake 40-50 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly.
Serve warm with salted caramel sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.
6 servings.
