Making pie has never been easier. It tastes like fried apple pie with a flaky crust and a sweet apple filling with a bit of cinnamon and a sweet icing drizzled on top.
Dough for Crust:
3 3/4 c. all-purpose flour
3/4 t. salt
1 1/2 c. shortening
1 egg yolk, plus enough milk added to make 1 c. liquid
2-3 handfuls corn flakes
8-10 Granny Smith apples, sliced and cored
4-8 T. butter, cubed into pats
1 c. sugar
1 t. cinnamon
1 egg
1 t. sugar
Thin Frosting:
2/3 c. powdered sugar
2-3 dashes vanilla extract
milk, just enough for a thin frosting
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
Use a 15x10-inch rimmed cookie sheet pan for baking. Also, use anywhere between 8-10 apples, depending on their size.
In a bowl, mix the first four ingredients together for crust. Divide dough in half. Roll out half of this dough to fit a cookie sheet. (Roll it out while on the cookie sheet!) Sprinkle on corn flakes. Place sliced apples on top of corn flakes.
Mix the sugar and cinnamon together; sprinkle on top of the apples. Dot with pats of butter.
Roll out the other half of the dough; add this top crust to cover everything.
Beat together egg whites and sugar; brush on top of pie. Cut a few slits in the top of the crust.
Bake 25-30 minutes.
While baking, mix together the powdered sugar, vanilla and just enough milk to make a thin frosting. Drizzle over the hot pie.
