No oven or bread making machine is necessary to make bread. Just use your crockpot instead for a soft, moist and delicious homemade bread.
1 c. warm water
1/3 cup sugar
1 T. active dry yeast
1 1/2 t. salt
2 T. vegetable oil
olive oil
non-stick cooking spray
3 c. all-purpose flour
rosemary, optional
melted butter, for brushing on top
Pour warm water into a large bowl; add sugar; stir until dissolved.; add dry yeast; stir. Let sit for about 10 minutes in a warm spot until foamy.
Add salt to the bowl with the water and sugar; stir to dissolve. Add the vegetable oil. Add flour; mix with hands until everything is combined.
Knead the dough for 5 minutes; form dough into a round ball.
Place the dough in an olive oil coated bowl; cover with plastic wrap. Place bowl in a warm spot for 30 minutes to rise and double in size.
Cut a piece of parchment paper to fit in the bottom of a 4 or 6 quart slow cooker; lay it in the bottom, making sure that the parchment paper goes up the sides of the slow cooker so that when the bread expands it won’t stick to the sides. Spray the parchment paper with non-stick cooking spray.
Place the dough in the slow cooker. Sprinkle on rosemary.
Cook on High setting for 2 hours.
Preheat oven to broil.
Remove the bread rom the slow cooker. Brush a little melted butter on top. Place under the broiler for about 1 minute until slightly brown, keeping a close eye on it to make sure it doesn't burn. Broiling is optional but is recommended to get the top crispy.
