You can serve your family President Reagan's favorite mac ' n cheese dish. It's so cheesy and good, his wife Nancy made sure that he was served it regularly in the White House.
1⁄2 lb. macaroni pasta
1 t. butter
1 egg, beaten
1 t. salt
1 t. dry mustard
1 T. hot water
3 c. sharp cheddar cheese, freshly grated
1 c. milk
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a casserole dish with butter.
Cook macaroni in well salted boiling water until tender; drain thoroughly. Pour macaroni into a large bowl; stir in the butter and beaten egg.
In a bowl, mix dry mustard and salt with 1 T. hot water; add to milk; stir. Add the cheddar cheese, reserving some to sprinkle on top.
Pour into the prepared casserole dish; add the milk; sprinkle on reserved cheese.
Bake for about 45 minutes or until custard is set and top is crusty.
