Description

Serve these treats for holiday gatherings or anytime you need a crunchy, sweet treat. They make a great hostess or teacher gift too.

Ingredients

3 c. mini-pretzels
1 c. unsalted butter (2 sticks)
1 c. packed light or dark brown sugar
1 t. vanilla extract
1 c. milk chocolate or semi-sweet chips
1/2 c. chopped pecans or almonds, optional
sea salt, to taste

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Place the pretzels in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the brown sugar; stir continuously until the mixture starts to boil. Allow it to boil for about 3-4 minutes without stirring until it thickens slightly. Remove from heat; stir in the vanilla extract.

Carefully pour the toffee mixture over the pretzels, ensuring that they're evenly coated, using a spatula to spread it out, if necessary.

Bake 10-12 minutes until bubbly and golden brown, keeping a close eye on them to avoid burning.

Remove from the oven. Immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top. Let them sit for a few minutes to melt; spread the melted chocolate evenly over the pretzels.

If using the nuts, sprinkle them over the chocolate while it's still warm.

Allow the toffee pretzels to cool completely on the baking sheet. Once cooled, break them into pieces, if desired.
