The Twitterverse is rife with support and encouragement for Jason Collins, the pro basketball player who came out as gay on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

Collins’ story “I’m a 34-year-old NBA center. I’m black. And I’m gay” has inspired celebrities from all over the nation to tweet their appreciation.

Former President Bill Clinton wrote, “I’m proud to call Jason Collins a friend,” while his daughter Chelsea Clinton chimed in, “Very proud of my friend Jason Collins for having the strength & courage to be the first openly gay player in the NBA.”

“Modern Family” hunk Eric Stonestreet penned, “This week’s cover featuring @jasoncollins34 : awesome, amazing, game changer,” and Kobe Bryant added, “Proud of @jasoncollins34 . Don't suffocate who u r because of the ignorance

Actor/comedian Dane Cook shared, “A heartfelt congrats to all of major league sports first openly gay athlete, Jason Collins, for "coming out of the locker room."
