Based on Consumer Reports’ 2026 grocery price comparison and an analysis from Freedom Debt Relief, Aldi is the cheapest major grocery option in 32 states, while Whole Foods is the priciest in 44.
The gap gets especially steep in states including California, Texas, Florida and Illinois, where the analysis says a comparable basket at Whole Foods costs 52.3% more than at Aldi.
