The events that transpired along the Philippine waters just some 21 miles off of Basco Island set a chain reaction that almost send the two countries to the brink of war. However, as new developments arise the mighty dragon that was China seems to court and coercre Taiwan to put pressure on the Filipino nation. I can't help but notice that, I as a Filipino myself, that we are being played as proxies in the conflict between the United States and China in their ensuing pursuit of power across the South China Sea and the Pacific in general. I am not proud of what that coastguard did to the Taiwanese fishermen, but I hope that both countries will settle this already delicate dispute with diplomacy instead of heating things up by encouraging the emotions of the people. Nothing even good comes from war, I hope we are mature enough to see that and I hope we have seen enough wars in the Middle East to even want it to happen to our neighborhood.
