Ingredients

1 1/4 lb. ground beef
2 medium onions, chopped
1/2 lb. hot Italian sausage
5 - 6 garlic cloves, minced
28 oz. can Italian plum tomatoes
28 oz. can Italian tomato puree
2 - 6 oz. cans tomato paste
1⁄4 c. minced fresh basil
1⁄4 t. cinnamon
1 t. salt
1/2 t. freshly ground black pepper
1 lb. lasagna noodles, cooked al dente
2 - 16 oz. containers Ricotta cheese
3 eggs, lightly beaten
1/2 lb. Pecorino Romano cheese, grated*

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

In a skillet, brown the ground beef and onions; discard the fat; set aside.

Remove the Italian sausage from the casing; crumble; cook briefly in a Dutch oven with the minced garlic. Add tomatoes, tomato puree and tomato paste. Add the basil, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Add in the ground beef mixture; stir well. Simmer sauce for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Combine the Ricotta and eggs in a bowl.

Place a small amount of sauce in the bottom of a 15" lasagna pan. Layer 1/4 of the noodles, 1/3 of the Ricotta mixture and 1/3 of the grated cheese; cover with 1/4 of the sauce.

Repeat the layers twice.

Top with the remaining noodles. Cover with the remaining meat sauce.

Bake for 45 minutes. Let sit 10 minutes before slicing.

Serve.

*or freshly grated Parmesan cheese
