Description
You can recreate the sauce from the famous East Harlem's Rao's restaurant in your own kitchen. It showcases the secret to great Italian cooking, simplicity.
Ingredients
- 35 oz. can San Marzano tomatoes, whole or crushed
- 1/4 c. olive oil
- 1/2 onion, diced
- 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 t. oregano
- 4-6 leaves fresh basil leaves, torn
- salt and black pepper, to taste
Steps
- If using whole tomatoes, hand crush them or lightly blend for a smoother texture; set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Saute the onion until translucent, 3-4 minutes. Stir in the garlic; saute until lightly golden, about 2 minutes.
- Add the crushed tomatoes with its juices; bring to a boil. Lower the heat; simmer 45 minutes.
