Savory Sausage Breakfast Rolls

Description

These breakfast rolls will brighten your day. Made with pork sausage, cheese, onions and bell peppers mixed in crescent rolls, these rolls are easy to make, serve and eat. If you want to make it healthier, use turkey sausage and reduced-fat cheese.

Ingredients

1 can refrigerated crescent rolls
1/2 lb. ground pork sausage, your choice of mildness
salt and pepper, to taste
2 T. butter, melted
1 c. Cheddar cheese, shredded
1/4 c. finely diced onions
1/4 c. finely diced green, yellow or red bell pepper

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

In a skillet, cook pork sausage, add salt and pepper to taste, make sure to crumble sausage while it is cooking. Remove sausage to paper towel lined dish to drain.

In the same skillet, add onion and bell pepper, saute just until onion becomes translucent.

Assembly:
Unroll crescent dough on a cutting board, if using rolls, pinch seams together to seal. Brush the dough with melted butter covering entire the surface.

Spread shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the dough, then cooked sausage, onions and peppers.

From short end of dough, start rolling jelly roll style until completely rolled. Refrigerate dough roll for 20 minutes to firm dough up.

Cut dough roll into 6 evenly spaced slices, place on lightly greased baking sheet, cut side up.
Bake for 15-18 minutes, until golden brown.


Note: Sausage, onions and peppers can be prepared the night before for a quicker meal the next day.
