You and your family will lick their plates clean when you make this dish. The root beer, green chilies and seasonings make this a delicious dish. You won't have to bend anyone's arm to finish their dinner!
1 T. olive oil
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 lb. 90% lean ground sirloin
1 1/2 t. chili powder
3/4 t. salt
1/4 t. pepper
1 c. root beer
2/3 c. tomato sauce
1-3 T canned diced green chilies, to taste, optional
1 1/2 T. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 c. minced scallions
4 hamburger buns, toasted
Heat oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and saute 1 minute, until fragrant.
Add beef and saute, breaking up gently, until no longer pink, about 5 minutes. Stir in chili powder, salt, and pepper. Add root beer, tomato sauce, green chilies, and Worcestershire sauce.
Bring to a simmer and cook about 15 minutes, stirring often, until thickened. Stir in the scallions. Serve on toasted buns.
