Patty Melt

Description

Customize your favorite burger with this delicious recipe. Use ground beef, chicken or turkey and your favorite cheese like American, Cheddar or Swiss along with caramelized onions on top of your choice of toasted bread. Yum!

Ingredients

1/3 lb. ground meat, ground chicken, ground turkey or lean ground beef
1 medium onion
2 slices rye bread rye bread or any type of bread or buns
2 slices American cheese, or favorite cheese
1 T. butter
1 T. cooking oil
salt and pepper, to taste

Put 1 tablespoon oil in skillet to medium-low heat. Add chopped onions and stir for several minutes, about 10 –15 minutes.

Form patties slightly larger than the bread slices. Make a well in the center of the patties. The patties will well up in the center during cooking and this helps even them up and cook more evenly.

Add one tablespoon oil to another skillet, over a medium heat. Add patties and season with salt and pepper. Brown each side of the patty, until fully cooked.

Add a tablespoon butter to a pan on medium heat. Coat bottom of pan so butter will coat the bread slice. Add one slice of bread, a slice of cheese, meat patty then top with caramelized onions and one more cheese slice. Top it all off with the last bread slice. Repeat.
