Description

Dress up those plain hamburgers with mushroom and onion gravy. Serve with mashed potatoes, rice or egg noodles.

Ingredients

• 1 1/4 lb. lean ground beef
• 1 egg
• 1/4 c. bread crumbs
• 1/4 t. freshly ground black pepper
• 1/2 t. seasoned salt
• 1/2 t. onion powder
• 1/2 t. garlic powder
• 2 t. Worcestershire sauce
• 1 T. olive or vegetable oil
• 1 small or medium onion, thinly sliced
• 2 T. all-purpose flour
• 1 c. beef broth or stock
• 1 1/2 T. cooking sherry
• 1/2 t. seasoned salt
• chopped parsley for garnish, if desired

Steps

1. Mix the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, pepper, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl. Form into 8 patties.
2. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook patties and onion in the oil until patties are nicely browned, about 4 minutes on each side. Remove the beef patties to a plate, and keep warm.
3. Sprinkle flour over the onions and drippings in the skillet. Stir in flour slowly with a fork, scraping bits of beef off of the bottom as you stir. Slowly stir in the beef broth and sherry. Season with seasoned salt. Simmer and stir over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes, until the gravy thickens.
