The perfect sandwich is a warm panini sandwich. Made on the grill or your panini maker, it is the best. Use your favorite cheese or Swiss, ham and bread with a little butter and mayo. Perfection!
2 T. unsalted butter
6 t. mayonnaise, or more as desired
8 slices white bread
8 slices Swiss cheese, Gruyere or your favorite
8 slices cooked or smoked ham or more, if desired

Preheat grill. Oil if necessary.
Spread 1 1/2 t. mayonnaise on 1 side of a slice of bread. Top with 1 slice of cheese, 2 slices of ham, and the second slice of cheese.
If desired, put more mayonnaise on the second slice of bread over the cheese to form a sandwich.
To make them more crisp, brush the top and bottom of each sandwich with oil.
Place in a panini grill and press until bread is crisp and brown and the cheese has melted slightly, from 9 to 10 minutes.
Or you can use a grill pan, preheat to medium-high heat. Place a heavy skillet on top of sandwiches and press down. Cook, turning once, 2 to 3 minutes per side.
Cut sandwiches in half and serve immediately.
