Don't serve your hamburgers the same way that you always do. Make them special with onion and mushroom gravy. Serve with rice, egg noodles or mashed potatoes.
1 lb. lean ground beef
1 egg
1/4 c. bread or cracker crumbs
1/4 t. ground black pepper
1/2 t. seasoned salt
1/2 t. onion powder
1/2 t. garlic powder
1 t. Worcestershire sauce
1 T. olive, canola or vegetable oil
1 c. thinly sliced onion
1/2 c. sliced mushroom
2 T. all-purpose flour
1 c. beef stock/broth
1 T. cooking sherry
1/2 t. seasoned salt
chopped parsley, for garnish
In a large bowl, mix together ground beef, egg, bread/cracker crumbs, pepper, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Form into 8 patties.
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the patties, mushroom and onion in the oil until patties are nicely browned, about 4 minutes per side. Remove the patties to a platter, and keep warm.
Sprinkle flour over the mushroom, onions and drippings in the skillet. Stir with a fork, scraping bits of beef off of the bottom as you stir. Gradually mix in the beef stock/broth and sherry. Season with seasoned salt. Simmer; stir over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes, until the gravy thickens.
Turn heat to low, return patties to the gravy, cover, and simmer for another 15 minutes.
Serve garnished with chopped parsley.
