This casserole was traditionally made in the South for funeral "layouts", but don't limit yourself to when you can enjoy it. Make it for potlucks, card parties, family get togethers or for your lunch or dinner.
1 package of 12 King’s Hawaiian Rolls or other brand of choice
1 lb. ham, thinly sliced
Swiss or Provolone cheese, thinly sliced
½ c. unsalted butter, melted
3 T. Worcestershire sauce
2 T. mustard
2 T. brown sugar
¼ t. onion powder
poppy seeds, if desired
Cut each roll in half, lengthwise; place bottom halves on the bottom of a baking pan.
Layer bottom halves with ham slices and cheese; place the top halves back on.
In a bowl, mix together butter, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar and onion powder. Pour sauce over sandwiches, drenching each one. Cover tightly. Let marinate from 4-24 hours, overnight works best.
When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350 degrees.
If desired, sprinkle poppy seeds over the tops of each roll.
Bake, uncovered, 15 minutes or until cheese is melted and bun tops are a little golden.
