This is a fantastic 30 minute meal that is pretty simple to make and so delicious. It's a creamy, cheesy baked dish with ground chuck, tomato sauce, egg noodles, sour cream, cottage cheese and Cheddar cheese. Serve with your favorite vegetable and crusty
1 1/4 lb. ground chuck
15 oz. can tomato sauce
1/4 t. salt
1/4 t. garlic salt
freshly ground black pepper, to taste
8 oz. wide egg noodles
1/2 c. sour cream
1 1/4 c. small curd cottage cheese (ricotta cheese or 8 oz. softened cream cheese could be substituted)
6 sliced green onions
1 c. grated sharp Cheddar cheese
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cook egg noodles in well salted boiling water until al dente, drain; set aside.
While the water is getting ready to cook the noodles, brown the ground chuck in a large skillet; drain off and discard any fat; add tomato sauce, 1/4 t. garlic salt, 1/4 t. salt and pepper, to taste; stir; simmer while preparing the other ingredients.
In a medium bowl, combine sour cream, cottage cheese and plenty of freshly ground black pepper; add to noodles; stir; add green onions; stir.
Assembly:
Add half of the noodles to a baking dish; top with half of the meat mixture; sprinkle on half of the grated Cheddar cheese. Repeat with noodles, meat, and a final layer of cheese.
Bake 20 minutes, or until all cheese is melted.
Serve with a French or other crusty bread.
