Make your own Teriyaki chicken at home instead of ordering take out. It's quite easy to do with a little help from your slow cooke. It will become one of your favorite slow cooker recipes.
3 lb. boneless, skinless chicken breasts, chopped
3/4 c. low-sodium soy sauce
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/3 c. rice vinegar
2-3 garlic cloves, minced
3/4 t. ground ginger
4 t. cornstarch
1/4 c. warm water
cooked rice, for serving
1/4 c. green onion, finely chopped, for garnish
sesame seeds, for garnish, optional
Place a slow cooker liner in a 4 quart slow cooker for easy clean up.
Place chopped chicken in the bottom of the slow cooker.
Whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, garlic and ginger. Pour over chicken. Cover; cook on Low 4-5 hours. When done, remove chicken; set aside, keeping warm.
While slow cooker is still warm or on the warm setting, mix cornstarch with warm water, stir until smooth. Slowly add this into sauce in the slow cooker to thicken, stirring while adding it.
Return chicken to the slow cooker; stir to coat in sauce.
Serve over rice garnished with freshly chopped green onion and sesame seeds, if desired.
