Make an amazing brunch or breakfast during the holidays with this delicious casserole. It will be a huge hit with your guests and is so simple to make, you just may treat yourself occasionally as well.
butter, for greasing the dish
8 eggs
1 1⁄2 c. half-and-half
1⁄3 c. maple syrup
1⁄3 c. light brown sugar, packed
10 -12 slices bread, sliced 1 inch thick (day old French bread)
Topping:
1⁄2 c. butter
1⁄2 c. light brown sugar, packed
2⁄3 c. maple syrup
2 c. pecans, chopped
Generously butter a 13 X 9 inch casserole dish.
Mix eggs, half-and-half, maple syrup, and brown sugar in a large bowl. Place bread slices in the prepared casserole dish (tilted up somewhat); cover with egg mixture; cover with plastic wrap; allow to soak overnight in refrigerator.
The next morning, preheat oven to 350 degrees. Remove casserole from refrigerator.
Topping:
Melt butter in a saucepan; add brown sugar and maple syrup; cook 1 - 2 minutes; stir in pecans.
Pour mixture over bread. Bake 45 - 55 minutes.
Let cool 10 minutes. Serve.
