Give your ordinary hamburgers a Greek twist with some Greek seasoning, Tahini sauce and some feta cheese and put them in a pita round. Add some lettuce, tomato and red onion and enjoy!
1 lb. extra-lean ground beef
1 t. Greek seasoning or more, to taste, store bought or homemade*
4 pita rounds
4 lettuce leaves
8 large tomato slices
4 thin red onion slices
Tahini sauce, made from Tahini paste found in the imported food aisle in large supermarkets or Mediterranean markets
1/4 c. feta cheese
Tahini Sauce:
1/4 c. tahini paste
1/4 c. water
2 T. freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/8 t. garlic powder
1/4 t. salt
Homemade Greek seasoning:
3/4 t. dried oregano
1/1 t. dried mint
1/2 t. dried thyme
1/4 t. dried basil
1/4 t. dried marjoram
1/4 t. dried minced onion
1/8 t. dried minced garlic
Preheat a grill to medium-high heat, 350-400 degrees.
Combine ground beef and Greek seasoning; shape into 4 patties.
Grill, covered with grill lid, 5 - 6 minutes on each side or until beef is no longer pink.
Cut off 2 inches of bread from 1 side of each pita round, forming a pocket. Line each with 1 lettuce leaf, 2 tomato slices and 1 red onion slice; add a burger. Drizzle each with 2 T. Tahini sauce, and sprinkle with 1 T. cheese.
4 servings.
Tahini Sauce:
Whisk together all ingredients.
Makes 1/2 c.
Homemade Greek seasoning:
In a small bowl, combine all ingredients. Store in an airtight container in a cool dry place for up to 6 months.
Makes 1 tablespoon.
