Everyone will enjoy these yummy meatball mozzarella cheese sticks. Serve them as an appetizer, a snack or as part of a meal with your favorite marinara sauce for dipping.
1 lb. ground beef
1 lb. ground pork
½ onion, minced
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 eggs, beaten
1 c. breadcrumbs
salt, to taste
black pepper, to taste
1 T. dried basil
1 T. dried oregano
1 T. dried parsley
12 sticks string cheese
2 c. all-purpose flour
4 eggs, beaten
3 c. breadcrumbs
marinara sauce, for serving
In a large bowl, add beef, pork, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, eggs, salt, pepper, basil, oregano, parsley and red pepper flakes; mix to combine.
Press 2 oz. of meat into a flat patty in the palm of your hand. Place a mozzarella stick into the center of the patty; wrap meat mixture around it to seal. Repeat with the remaining mixture.
Dredge the meat-wrapped stick of cheese in the flour; coat it in beaten egg; roll in breadcrumbs. Repeat with remaining mozzarella sticks and meat.
Place a batch of sticks into a fryer with oil heated to 325°F; cook until outside is golden brown and beef is cooked through, about 5 minutes. Remove mozzarella sticks from fryer; drain on a wire rack. Season with salt.
Serve with marinara sauce.
