Egg Topped Bacon Onion Cheeseburger

Description

Serve your family or guests a truly juicy, decadent burger. It can be fried on the stovetop or made on the grill and then topped with sauteed onions, crispy fried bacon, gooey cheese and a runny fried egg.

Ingredients

Sautéed Onions:
1 T. olive oil
1 large red onion, halved and thinly sliced into half moons
2 t. light brown sugar, packed
1 t. kosher salt
2 t. apple cider vinegar

Burgers:
1 1/2 lb. 80/20 ground beef
1 1/2 t. kosher salt
1/2 t. freshly ground black pepper
1 t. garlic powder
2 t. Worcestershire sauce

Toppings:
Swiss or Cheddar cheese
sautéed onions
8 strips crispy fried bacon
4 fried eggs with soft yolks
bottled or homemade ketchup
4 soft buns

Sautéed Onions:
Heat oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat until hot, but not smoking; add onions; cook until they begin to soften, about 5 minutes; add sugar, salt and vinegar; stir to combine; cook until onions are very soft and begin to brown, about 10 more minutes.

Burgers:
Combine the ground meat with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce; DO NOT over mix; form into 4 patties.

Heat a cast iron skillet on stovetop over medium-high heat or turn on grill to high heat. Cook burgers for about 3 minutes per side for medium rare or until desired degree of doneness. Top with cheese in the last 2 minutes of cooking for slightly melted cheese.

Split open buns; spread each half with ketchup; top with the cheeseburgers, onions, bacon and fried eggs.

4 servings.

*Optional: Grill or toast the insides of the buns.
