These meatballs are savory, tangy and a bit sweet as well. They're a delicious main course if served with pasta, mashed potatoes or rice and can be served as an appetizer with the sauce used as a dip. Whatever way you use them, they'll become one of your
1 lb. lean ground beef
1/2 c. seasoned breadcrumbs
1 egg, beaten
1 T. water
1 onion, finely chopped, divided
2 t. fresh garlic, crushed
1 c. tomato sauce
1 c. Coca Cola (not diet)
2 T. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 green bell pepper, chopped
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray an 8 x 12 inch casserole dish with cooking spray.
In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, water, half of the chopped onion, half of the green bell pepper, half of the Salt and black pepper; mix well. Form into about 15 large meatballs.* Place in a single layer in the prepared oven dish.
In a small bowl, mix together the remaining onion, garlic, tomato sauce, Coca-Cola, Worcestershire sauce, green bell pepper, salt and pepper. Pour over the meatballs.
Bake 50 – 60 minutes turning twice during cooking, until sauce is bubbly and meatballs are fully cooked.
Serve.
Makes 15 large meatballs or 30 appetizer sized meatballs.
