Make a healthier version of Sloppy Joes with these tasty Sloppy Janes. Your family may not even notice the difference.
1 lb. lean, ground turkey
1 t. dry steak seasoning blend
1/8 t. salt
1/2 c. chopped onion
1/2 c. chopped red bell pepper
1 T. Worcestershire sauce
1 T. red wine vinegar
1 c. canned tomato sauce
3/4 c. canned no-salt-added tomato sauce
2 T. tomato paste
1 1/2 T. granulated sugar
5 small, light hamburger buns, toasted
Spray a large skillet with non-stick cooking spray; bring it to medium-high heat on the stove. Add turkey; sprinkle with steak seasoning and salt; cook and crumble until mostly cooked, about 8 minutes.
Reduce heat to medium; add onion, bell pepper, Worcestershire sauce and vinegar; stir well; cook and crumble until the meat is fully cooked, about 5 minutes.
Reduce heat to low; add tomato sauces, tomato paste and sugar; stir well. Cook until hot, about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Toast the buns. Evenly distribute mixture on the bottom buns, then place on the tops of the buns.
