What better way to warm up in cold, winter weather than than a nice bowl of soup. This ham and bean soup is hearty and delicious.
#1 package/bag dry Great Northern beans
ham bone or a nice ham slice
2 slices raw bacon
1/2 T. salt
1/2 T. black pepper
2 onions, cut into chunks
cold water
Pick out stones, bad beans and debris; discard. Rinse beans in water.
Add rinsed beans, ham bone or ham slice and bacon to a large 6 quart soup pot; add salt, pepper and onions. Fill pot 3/4 full with cold water; bring to a boil; reduce heat to a simmer; cook 4-5 hours until beans are nice and tender.
Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
