TV star Joan Collins makes this dish for her family and friends and you can make it at home. The key to the great taste is the three kinds of ground meats and a good quality red wine.
olive oil
1 lb. ground beef
1 lb. ground veal
1 lb. ground pork
1 1/2 onions, finely chopped
1 lb. chopped mushrooms
2 cans good quality whole, peeled tomatoes
2 cans tomato paste
2 T. Worcestershire sauce
salt, to taste
1/4 c. sugar
bay leaves
pinch garlic salt
lots of good California red wine
freshly grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
In a large pot, brown ground meats and onions in olive oil. Add mushrooms and tomatoes; crush tomatoes with a spatula; stir; cook about 8 minutes. Add tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce and a pinch of garlic salt, pepper and salt, to taste; stir; add sugar; stir; add about 1/4 c. red wine; simmer for at least 6 hours. Remove bay leaves before serving.
Serve over spaghetti with lots of freshly grated Parmesan cheese.

*To make a day in advance: follow recipe, simmer for 3 hours; refrigerate. The next day, simmer 3 more hours before serving.
**This recipe can be easily doubled for a crowd or dinner party.
