Description
A combination of ground beef and ground turkey make these salisbury steaks a little lighter and healthier than the classic dish. Serve it with your favorite potatoes, egg noodles or rice to take advantage of its wonderful gravy.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 t. oil
- 3/4 c. onion, minced
- 1 lb. 93% lean ground beef
- 1 lb. 93% lean ground turkey
- 1/2 c. dry bread crumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1 large egg white
- 2 c. beef broth, divided
- 1/4 t. salt
- 1/8 t. black pepper, to taste
- 8 oz. sliced mushrooms
- 2 T. all-purpose flour
- 2 T. tomato paste
- 1 t. red wine vinegar
- 2 t. Worcestershire sauce, to taste
- 1/2 t. mustard powder
- 1/4 c. water
- chopped parsley for garnish, optional
Steps
- Sauté onion in oil over medium heat until golden brown, about 5 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine half of the sautéed onion, both ground meats, bread crumbs, egg, egg white, 1/4 c. beef broth, salt and pepper. Shape into 8 oval patties.
- In a large deep skillet over medium-high heat, brown both sides of patties, about 4 - 5 minutes per side; transfer to a plate; set aside.
