Bring your tuna sandwich up a notch and make it a tuna melt. It's easy and quick to prepare. It starts with slices of French bread, has tuna fish, mayo and mustard, celery, onion, cheese and sliced tomato.
4 - 4 oz. cans tuna fish, drained
1/4 c. mayonnaise
1/4 c. celery, finely chopped
1/4 c. red onion, finely chopped
1 T. Dijon mustard
2 T. fresh parsley, chopped
salt and pepper
8 slices French bread
16 slices Cheddar cheese, or more if wanting a layer on the bottom
tomato slices
1/4 c. butter, softened
In a medium size bowl, combine tuna, mayonnaise, celery, onion, mustard, parsley, salt and pepper.
Butter each slice of bread; put the butter side down; place cheese on the unbuttered side; add tuna mixture on top; top with tomato slices and additional cheese.
Skillet Method:
Preheat a skillet to medium heat; place sandwich on the skillet; heat for about 2-3 minutes until cheese starts to melt and is golden brown. Flip over; cook until cheese is fully melted and sandwich is golden brown.
Broiler Method:
Preheat broiler. Spread butter on bread; place in broiler butter side up; toast for several minutes; top with cheese and tuna mixture. Broil for 2-3 minutes until cheese is melted.
