This is an easy main dish to make in the oven. It's delicious with tender meat and a great tomato gravy that is good over mashed potatoes, rice or egg noodles.
2 T. butter
2 boneless sirloin or chuck steaks, about 1 inch thick
1 envelope dry onion soup mix
1/2 lb. mushrooms, sliced
1/2 green bell pepper
1 can tomatoes, drained and chopped (juice reserved)
1/4 t. salt
dash of pepper
1/2 c. juice from canned tomatoes
1-2 T. bottled steak or Worcestershire sauce
1 T. cornstarch
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place a 20 inch sheet of heavy duty foil in a shallow baking pan. Spread butter in the center.
Cut steaks into serving portions; arrange in prepared pan, overlapping portions slightly. Sprinkle with onion soup mix, mushrooms, green bell pepper and tomatoes. Season with salt and pepper.
Stir together tomato juice, steak sauce and cornstarch; pour evenly over meat and vegetables. Close foil into a loose bundle.
Bake for 2 hours.
