Lasagna is so good but so labor intensive and time consuming to prepare. Make it easier and just as delicious by making it in the crockpot. It takes only about 10 minutes to prepare and 4 hours to cook this soon to be a family favorite.
non-stick cooking spray
1/2 lb. ground beef
1/2 lb. ground Italian sausage (or more ground beef)
1 t. Italian seasoning
1/2 c. chopped onion
24 oz. jar favorite spaghetti sauce
1 c. water, divided
15 oz. Ricotta cheese (or Cottage cheese)
2 c. shredded Mozzarella cheese, divided
1/2 c. grated Parmesan cheese
1 large egg
9-12 lasagna noodles, uncooked (just the regular kind)
fresh basil, for serving
Spray the crock pot bottom and sides with non-stick cooking spray; set aside.
Brown ground beef and Italian sausage in a skillet over medium heat. Discard grease. Add Italian seasoning and onions; cook until onions are soft; stir in the spaghetti sauce with 1/2 c. water. Let simmer for 5 minutes.
While the sauce is simmering, in a bowl, stir together the egg, the Ricotta and Parmesan cheeses and 1 c. Mozzarella cheese.
Scoop about 1 c. spaghetti sauce onto the bottom of the prepared crock pot; top with 3 raw noodles, breaking some noodles to fit, if necessary. Evenly spread about 1/3 of the cheese mixture on top. Repeat with 2 more layers, or until all ingredients are used. Add 1/2 c. water around the sides. Sprinkle the remaining cup of Mozzarella cheese on top.
Cook on Low for 4-5 hours, or until the noodles are tender.
Serve, topped with fresh basil, if desired.
