Use your crock pot to make an amazing, delicious main dish that is economical and easy to prepare. Serve it with mashed potatoes, rice or egg noodles, if desired.
Patties:
1 lb. ground beef, 7% fat
1/2 c. crushed crackers (or bread crumbs)
1 egg, beaten
2 T. milk
1/8 t. salt
1/4 t. black pepper
1/4 t. garlic powder
1/2 t. dried oregano
2 T. cooking oil (to brown the patties)
Gravy:
10.5 oz. can cream of mushroom soup (or other cream of soup)
1.74 oz. brown gravy mix packets from two .87 oz. packets
1 1/4 c. water
1/2 t. dried thyme
Vegetables:
2 c. fresh sliced mushrooms
1 onion, sliced
In a large bowl, add ground beef, crackers, egg, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder and oregano; mix with clean hands, not over mixing. Form mixture into 4 patties; set aside.
In another large bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup, both gravy packets, thyme and water until smooth; set aside.
In a large skillet set over medium-high heat, add just enough oil to coat the bottom. When oil and skillet are hot, add patties; brown on both sides, not cooking through. They will finish cooking in the crock pot.
Add half of the mushrooms and half of the onions to the bottom of a 5 qt. or larger crock pot; place patties on top; place remaining onions and mushrooms on top of the patties. Pour on gravy mixture.
Cover; cook on Low for 4 hours 30 minutes without uncovering during the cooking time.
