Description
Don't be afraid of the vegetables in these Sloppy Joes because they add wonderful flavor and texture to the dish. It's an easy dinner that everyone will enjoy.
Ingredients
- 1 lb. lean ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced
- 1 medium green bell pepper, diced (or any color)
- 2 celery ribs, diced
- 8 oz. tomato sauce
- 6 oz. tomato paste
- 2 T. Worcestershire sauce
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 T. brown sugar
- 1 t. salt
- 1 t. ground mustard
- 1/2 t. red pepper flakes
- 8 hamburger buns, toasted
- favorite cheese slices, optional
Steps
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook ground beef, onion, bell pepper and celery, stirring occasionally, until meat is cooked through. Discard excess grease; return skillet to heat.
- Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, brown sugar, salt, ground mustard, and red pepper flakes; stir.
- Bring to a simmer; reduce heat to medium-low; simmer 15 - 30 minutes, depending on desired crispness of the vegetables.
