Up your grilled cheese to another level when you combine the classic grilled cheese with pepperoni pizza. It has the best of both worlds, cheese.
4 slices Sara Lee Artesano bread
3 oz. shredded Mozzarella cheese
2 T. pizza sauce, plus more for dipping
2 T. shredded Parmesan cheese
1 T. basil, thinly sliced
pinch dried oregano
24 thin slices pepperoni about 1 inch diameter
salted butter
Optional Pepperoni Crust:
6 thin pepperoni slices
2 T. shredded Mozzarella cheese
Preheat a large non-stick skillet over medium heat.
Butter one side of each slice of bread; place 2 bread slices buttered side down in the skillet. Top each slice with 1 T. pizza sauce.
Layer cheese, 6 slices pepperoni, Parmesan cheese, basil, oregano, remaining pepperoni and Mozzarella cheese for each sandwich; top with remaining bread, buttered sides up.
Cook 3-4 minutes per side or just until golden. Transfer sandwiches from the non-stick skillet to a platter.
Optional Pepperoni Crust: For each sandwich, place 3 pepperoni slices directly in the skillet; top with 1 T. Mozzarella cheese. Place sandwiches on top of cheese; let cook until crisp and crusted, about 1 minute.
Serve.
