Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

In a large pot, boil spaghetti in well salted boiling water until al dente. Remove from heat; drain; set aside.

While spaghetti is cooking, cook beef, sausage and onion in a large skillet over medium heat. When meats are brown, discard excess grease. Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, garlic, salt and pepper; stir well. Simmer 5-8 minutes. Add pasta; stir well; remove from heat.

While meat sauce is simmering, cut bread loaf in half. Carve out the middle of each half. Remove any remaining bread to create a large hollow in each half. Brush insides and sides of the halves with butter. Sprinkle with garlic powder.

Toast bread in oven for a few minutes until it's nice and toasted and crispy on the edges, watching carefully so they don't burn.

When bread is toasted, spoon prepared spaghetti and meat sauce into each half, filling completely. (There will most likely be spaghetti and meat sauce left over.) Top with cheeses, evenly divided between both loaves.

Bake loaves on a baking pan or pizza stone for 15-20 minutes or until cheeses are melted and golden. Remove from oven.

Carefully cut each loaf in half with a bread knife.

Serve.

4 servings.

*If there is spaghetti and meat sauce left over, they can be frozen to make another small spaghetti meal later or make a third garlic bread boat using half of another Italian bread loaf.
