Feed the family on busy nights or serve a crowd with easy to make sliders. They're made with gooey cheese, roast beef, thinly sliced onion and sweet buttered rolls.
3 t. unsalted butter
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
2 t. fresh thyme, minced
1/4 t. kosher salt
1/4 t. black pepper
12 sweet rolls
10 slices Provolone cheese
14 oz. sliced deli roast beef (or leftover roast beef)
1/2 c. unsalted butter, melted
1 1/2 T. dried onion soup mix
1 packet au jus gravy mix
3 c. water
freshly chopped parsley, for garnish, if desired
Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onions; coat in the butter. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 12-15 minutes until onions are soft and browned but not burned.
Add thyme, salt and pepper; stir to combine; remove from heat; set aside.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Remove rolls from the the package, not separating but leaving the rolls intact. Slice the rolls across horizontally to separate the tops from the bottoms.
Place the bottoms, cut side up in an 11 x 7 baking dish or rimmed baking pan. Top with half of the cheese; add the roast beef. Evenly spread out the onions on top. Add remaining cheese. Place on the roll tops.
In a small bowl, stir together the melted butter and onion soup mix. Brush mixture on top of the rolls, making sure it’s evenly distributed.
Cover loosely with aluminum foil, making sure the foil isn't touching the tops of the rolls.
Bake for 25 minutes.
Remove the foil. Bake another 5 minutes to brown the rolls.
While the rolls are baking, follow au jus package direction to make the au jus with the water.
Serve, garnished with parsley and au jus on the side, for dipping.
Makes 12 sliders.
