Use that leftover ham to make ham sandwiches, but ham sandwiches to the next level. They're easy, delicious and can be on the table in 20 minutes.
4 slices hearty bread, like Ciabatta bread
olive oil
Dijon mustard
4 oz. thinly sliced ham or leftover ham
2 oz. thinly sliced Swiss cheese
1 pear, cored and thinly sliced (could sub apple slices)
2 romaine lettuce leaves, folded or torn to the size of the bread
freshly ground pepper
Heat a griddle, grill pan or skillet over medium heat.
Brush one side of each slice of bread with olive oil; spread the second side of each slice with mustard.
Layer cheese, ham, lettuce and pear together on each sandwich; season with pepper; top with the second slice of bread.
Place sandwiches on the griddle, grill pan or skillet ; weight down with something heavy like a small skillet or a large can of tomatoes. (If you have a panini maker, it could also be used.)
Cook until golden brown; flip over; cook until second sides are golden and cheese is melting.
Slice in half. Serve at while.
