While this is a great breakfast dish, it makes a wonderful, satisfying dinner as well. The canned biscuits make it a quick and easy meal to serve your family.
2 cans Pillsbury Grands Biscuits
1 lb. breakfast pork sausage, your favorite
3 T. flour
2 1/4 c. milk
1/2 t. salt
1 t. black pepper
1 T. melted butter, optional
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Grease the bottom and sides of a 7x10 inch small casserole dish with cooking spray.
Cut 1 can of the biscuits into quarters; place in bottom of the prepared casserole dish. Bake for 10 minutes. Remove from oven.
While biscuits are baking, cook and crumble sausage in a large skillet over medium heat until completely cooked.
Sprinkle the flour over the sausage; stir and cook until the flour is absorbed. Add milk, salt and pepper; stir until the mixture thickens and begins to boil. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
If gravy is too thick, gradually add up to 1/4 c. milk, until the desired consistency is reached. Pour the gravy over the cooked biscuits.
Cut the remaining can of the biscuits into quarters; place over the gravy. Bake the casserole for 10 minutes.
Cover the dish with aluminum foil. Bake for 15 more minutes or until biscuits are golden brown.
If desired, brush the tops of biscuits with melted butter.
If the casserole is becoming a bit too brown while baking, cover it with aluminum foil to keep it from overly browning or burning.
