The silver screen actress's recipe is found in several cookbooks. It's made with three different ground meats, onion, bell peppers, seasonings and a surprise ingredients, hard boiled eggs.
2 lb. ground sirloin
1 lb. bilk pork sausage
1 lb. ground veal
1 large Bermuda onion, finely chopped
3 T. Lawry's Seasoned Salt, divided
3 t. A-1 Steak Sauce, divided
3 eggs
3 green bell peppers, finely chopped
3 T. Lea & Perrin's Worcestershire Sauce, divided
4 soft boiled eggs, whole
1 c. water
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Combine the meats, unbeaten eggs, onion, bell peppers, 1 T. Lawry's Seasoned Salt, 1 T. Lea & Perrin's Worcestershire Sauce and 1 t. A-1 Steak Sauce; mix thoroughly.
Shape the mixture into an oval loaf form in a large shallow baking pan. Gently press the whole, hard boiled eggs into the loaf.
Sprinkle remaining Lawry's Seasoned Salt, Worcestershire and Steak Sauce on top of loaf, as a crust. Pour 1 cup water in the base of the roasting pan. Do not pour over the meat loaf after you have put the sauces on.
Bake 30 minutes. Turn oven down to 300 degrees F; bake for another 30 minutes. Turn oven down to 250 degrees F bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, basting frequently with the pan juices.
