Make Wendy's delicious chili at home with ingredients that you may already have in your refrigerator or pantry. It can be cooked in a slow cooker or a soup pot.
2 lb. ground beef
1 qt. tomato juice
29 oz. can tomato purée
15 oz. can red kidney beans, drained
15 oz. can pinto beans, drained
1 large onion, chopped (about 1 1/2 c.)
1/2 c. diced celery
1/4 c. diced green bell pepper
1/4 c. chili powder (less for milder chili)
1 t. ground cumin (or more, if desired)
1 1/2 t. garlic powder
1 t. salt
1/2 t. ground black pepper
1/2 t. dried oregano
1/2 t. sugar
1/8 t. cayenne pepper
In a large skillet, brown the ground beef; discard the fat.
Add the beef and the remaining ingredients to a 6 qt. pot. Cover; let the chili simmer for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, stirring every 15 minutes.
The chili could also be cooked in a slow cooker on Low for 3 to 4 hours.
Serve.
