Description

Make Wendy's delicious chili at home with ingredients that you may already have in your refrigerator or pantry. It can be cooked in a slow cooker or a soup pot.

Ingredients

  • 2 lb. ground beef
  • 1 qt. tomato juice
  • 29 oz. can tomato purée
  • 15 oz. can red kidney beans, drained
  • 15 oz. can pinto beans, drained
  • 1 large onion, chopped (about 1 1/2 c.)
  • 1/2 c. diced celery
  • 1/4 c. diced green bell pepper
  • 1/4 c. chili powder (less for milder chili)
  • 1 t. ground cumin (or more, if desired)
  • 1 1/2 t. garlic powder
  • 1 t. salt
  • 1/2 t. ground black pepper
  • 1/2 t. dried oregano
  • 1/2 t. sugar
  • 1/8 t. cayenne pepper

Steps

  1. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef; discard the fat.
  2. Add the beef and the remaining ingredients to a 6 qt. pot. Cover; let the chili simmer for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, stirring every 15 minutes.
  3. The chili could also be cooked in a slow cooker on Low for 3 to 4 hours.
