German Pork Chops with Sauerkraut

Description

If you have an hour, you have time to make this wonderful German meal. The pork chops are juicy and tender and the sauerkraut gives the dish a little bit of a tang. Serve with mashed potatoes for a complete meal.

Ingredients

boneless, center cut pork chops (about 3 to 3 1/2 lb.)
2 lb. sauerkraut, drained
1 large red apple, diced
1 small yellow onion, chopped
1/2 c. brown sugar
dash cinnamon
mashed potatoes, for serving, if desired

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown pork chops on both sides, about 5 minutes per side. Place the pork chops in an 9×13 baking dish.

In a large bowl, mix together sauerkraut, apple, onion, brown sugar and cinnamon; spread on top of the pork chops. Cover baking dish with aluminum foil.

Bake until pork chops are fully cooked, about 35-45 minutes (depending on thickness of the pork chops), or until the centers are 145 degrees F. One inch thick pork chops take about 45 minutes.

Remove from oven.

Serve pork chops and sauerkraut over mashed potatoes, if desired.
